Cultural Enrichment Programs
International Studies
This program of international study and travel is open to all Beecher students enrolled in grades 8 through 12. An elective Social Studies credit is earned for each successfully completed semester of International Studies (IS). IS students have traveled to England, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Greece, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Spain and Ghana. Twenty $750.00 scholarships are available to students who qualify. A minimum 2.0 GPA is required for enrollment.
Summer Youth Program
Michigan Technological University’s Summer Youth Program is a wonderful blend of academics and recreation. Students attend the week-long residential program in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The program is open to all Beecher students grades 8 through 12.
Foreign Exchange Program
Each year one or more Beecher High School students are selected to participate in a home stay visit to a foreign country for a summer, semester, or academic year. Students must be 15 – 19 years old and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Foreign language proficiency is not required. BSIP scholarship monies are available. Youth for Understanding is the BSIP partner for this program. Students have visited Japan, Greece, Brazil, Argentina and Germany.
Black College Tour
Each year during the four-day Presidents’ Day holiday in February BSIP conducts a tour to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s). The tour is open to all Beecher high school students and BSIP scholarships supplement the travel portion of the package. Students travel by deluxe motor coach and stay in hotels throughout the tour. A minimum of four colleges are visited and area attractions and events are included where ever possible. Past trips have visited Alabama, Mississippi, Louisana, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia.
Summer Institutes
Michigan colleges and universities offer a variety of summer programs in the arts, sciences, and technology. BSIP students are encouraged to participate and scholarships and other financial aid is available.
