Scholarship Program Information

Enrollment: Each year BSIP will enroll ten 7th grade students from the Beecher Community School District. Five alternates will also be chosen.

Requirements: Students must be:

  • Enrolled in the Beecher Community School District
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 (C average
  • Complete an application
  • Participate in and interview with a parent/guardian
  • Be interested in training or college after high school

Selection Criteria:

Students will be chosen for BSIP based on a 100-point scale that includes the following: grade point average (40 points), citizenship (20 points), attendance (20 points), interview (15 points), application (5 points)

Early Support

This program will provide support and assistance for 7th and 8th graders and their families in developing patterns of success in personal responsibility, academic achievement, community involvement and preparation for post-secondary training and education.

Responsibilities

Student responsibilities: BSIP students will:

  • Attend BSIP workshops and meetings
  • Maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average, 2.5 by the end of 8th grade
  • Attend assigned study hall and tutoring sessions
  • Do 10 hours community service each year
  • Maintain good attendance and citizenship
  • Enroll in college preparatory or training oriented classes
  • Complete an annual BSIP evaluation

Parent responsibilities:

  • Attend scheduled BSIP meetings
  • Monitor student’s attendance and participation in BSIP programs
  • Provide transportation to BSIP activities
  • Attend parent-teacher conferences, open houses and other school activities
  • Do volunteer work at the school
  • Provide a suitable study space for the student at home
  • Monitor student’s attendance, behavior and academic progress at school
  • Complete an annual BSIP evaluation

Pre-College

In the second semester of the 8th grade, BSIP students will choose enrollment in one pre-college program offered by BSIP partners:

  • Mott Community College
  • University of Michigan-Flint
  • Kettering University
  • Urban League of Flint

Students will participate in the selected pre-college program throughout their high school years. Student and parent responsibilities are those designated by the specific program.

Post-Secondary Scholarships

Students that graduate from Beecher High School and satisfy the requirements of the BSIP program, including the successful completion of a BSIP-approved pre-college program, are eligible for scholarship support up to $20,000. Scholarship support may continue with proof of continuing success in post-secondary education and/or training. BSIP will continue to assist students during their post-secondary years.
